For those of you who are lucky enough to live in the Puget Sound area, here are three events for you to put in your calendar for next month and next year. They are fun, informative, compelling, and a wonderful way to tap into the zeitgeist of our city.
TedxRainier 2012 was held last weekend in UW’s Meany Hall. It was created and produced by a fabulous team of volunteers who work to bring the TED experience to our corner of the globe. You can see the presentations online, and it’s worth going back through the presentations for the past three years. We have some fabulous home grown speakers who made outstanding presentations.
I couldn’t find a 2013 date yet, but it has been in November for the past two years, and was held in October in 2010. Follow them on twitter @TEDxRainier or check the website for next year’s date and location.
The 2012 Great Pumpkin Beer Festival was held last month and is being hailed by many as the best event of the year. Certainly this may be true if you enjoy a party and are especially fond of beer. The Washington Beer Blog is a fantastic resource for all things artisanal brewery related. If you thought learning about wine was fun, just wait until you get into the brewing culture! There are beer tastings, food & beer pairings, education for learning to brew your own craft beer, and lots of events where you can sit back and enjoy the brews! If you’re eager for next year’s event information, either check back at these sites, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
And finally, for those of you who don’t want to wait a whole year before finding a great local event, there’s Ignite Seattle. Ignite is an evening of 5 minute talks on a wide variety of topics. Their tagline: Enlighten us, but make it quick. The event concept was launched right here in Seattle by two locals, and has been replicated in cities around the country. Ignite Seattle 19 is on February 20, 2013 at the Town Hall located at Seneca & 8th street. Cost is $5/person and it promises to be another fantastic evening. I hope to see you there!
